In Japan futons are generally folded and stored in a cupboard each day and then laid out before sleeping. The futons can be folded (along the length) either in two or even into three and the height for folded futons (width as per the width of the futon) would be 30cm for futons folded in two and closer to 50cm for futons folded into three.
